...The lack of focus on fostering a healthy company culture!
We know, we know. Absolutely terrifying!
Well actually yeah…
A leader who loses trust, loyalty, and reputation because they failed to listen is a scary thing.
A healthy culture is one where employees are empowered to speak up, act out, and shift directions when a company's reputation (and sometimes lives) are on the line.
Just ask Boeing's CEO Dave Calhoun or Nike's ex-CEO John Donahoe how important culture seems to them now. In both cases, the lack of focus on fostering a healthy company culture cost them dearly. For Nike, it was market sharet, employee engagement, stock value, and loyal customers. For Boeing, planes failed, lives were endangered, and billions lost.
These crises could have been mitigated or avoided if either leader chose to prioritize culture over cost or listening over assuming they knew best.
